About Friends Helping Friends
Friends Helping Friends is a volunteer-based internal support initiative operated by the Wheeling Park Commission. Its purpose is simple: to provide compassionate, short-term financial assistance to current employees (our “Hosts”) facing personal hardships. The committee organizes fundraising efforts — from donation drives to community events like this scramble — and reviews applications from Hosts in need. Support may include paying urgent bills directly to service providers or purchasing holiday gifts for children of Hosts through an annual giving program. All funds are collected through voluntary donations, optional payroll deductions, and special events. Friends Helping Friends does not generate revenue and exists solely to care for the wellbeing of Hosts within the organization. It’s a tradition of generosity that reflects the very heart of Oglebay.
